Reviewing the OpenLinux Directories
Getting Started Guide
91
A small pop-up menu appears where you can select to Copy, Move, or
Link (create a pointer to) the file.
4.
Choose Move. The file is moved.
CAUTION: If you don’t have permission to write (create)
files in the directory where you move the file, this procedure
will fail. You must have appropriate access permissions
within both the source and the destination directories before
you can move or copy the file.
NOTE: The KDE file manager is also a simple HTML
browser, much like the Explorer in Windows98. If you view a
directory that contains a file called index.html, the HTML
file will be displayed instead of the contents of the directory.
To change this behavior, un-select View|HTML View.
Opening Files in Applications
As you use Linux applications, you will often need to use a dialog box to browse
within the Linux file system to select a file to edit or view within an application,
or to select the directory where you want to save a file.
The KDE Desktop includes dialog boxes for opening and saving files. These dia-
log boxes are used by nearly all KDE applications. To learn how to use these dia-
log boxes, open the KDE Text Editor by clicking its icon on the Panel or
choosing Editors|Text Editor on the main menu.
To load a text file for editing:
1.
Choose File|Open in the Text Editor. The Open dialog box appears, as
shown in Figure 48.

Linux file system.
